In December 2004, the Syrian Abu Musab al-Suri published a six hundred page handbook of ”global Islamic resistance” on the Internet. At that time, he was regarded as an important theoretic of the ”Holy War”.
But not only that. Al-Suri himself participated in one of the first Islamic attacks in Europe, the bomb attack of 1985 on a restaurant in Madrid, which killed eighteen people. He was also behind further attacks, spent years in the struggle in Afghanistan and entered the leadership circle of al-Qaeda.

Above all, al-Suri said that ”normalization” should be avoided in the relationship between immigrated Muslims and the local peoples. As long as an open uprising in the Western countries is not to be expected – since this would be left to a later phase – the enemy should be unsettled and weakened by individual actions. Everyone could become a ”holy warrior” by attacking unbelievers, especially Jews and people who through their way of life are causing displeasure in the eyes of the believers.

Despite all the possibilities the attack was not prevented

The attack in Manchester corresponds precisely to this concept. The murderer, child of Libyan refugees, well-integrated for many years, has done what al-Suri has suggested: Radical separation from those to thank for security, home, education and income.

The build up of a special identity based on victim hood of racism and Islamophobia coupled with a strong supremacy feeling – seeing himself/themselves as the bearer of true faith and the great Muslim culture. The forming of terror cells, exploiting the ethnic and religious fragmentation of the country in which one lives, demanding loyalty among the ” Moderate”and so obtaining the means to conduct any kind of lethal attack.
