Honeycombs, brittisk popgrupp som bildades 1963, bestående av
- Dennis D’Ell, (sång), född 10 oktober 1943.
- Martin Murray, (gitarr), född 7 oktober 1941.
- Alan Ward, (gitarr), född 12 december 1945.
- John Lantree. (bas), född 20 augusti 1940.
- Annie ”Honey” Lantree. (trummor), född 28 augusti 1943.
Gruppen blev mest känd för den kvinnliga trummisen Annie ”Honey” Lantree. Vid denna tidpunkt fanns det inte många kvinnliga trummisar. The Honeycombs hade två stora hits Have I The Right? 1964 och That’s The Way 1965.
Gruppens producent Joe Meek avled plötsligt 1967. I samband med detta försvann också gruppen.
Här fanns inte så mycket, men på den engelskspråkiga Wikipedia kan man läsa att det var en grupp från London som tillhörde de allra första popgrupperna att ha en kvinnlig trummis och även det är ju ett steg framåt inom musikvärlden.
De gjorde i stort sett bara två låtar som var bra, så där har jag haft lätt att välja. Deras allra fösta låt blev också deras största och hette ”Have I The Right” som blev etta på listorna i UK, Australien, Kanada och Sverige. Plattan som släpptes i juni 1964 blev också 5: a i USA och 2: a i Holland och sålde över en miljon exemplar, vilket ger guldskiva internationellt.
Den andra låten som slog var That´s The Way som toppade Kvällstoppen i Sverige 3 veckor och blev 12: a i UK. Förutom i de nämnda länderna var de också populära i Västtyskland och mycket omtyckta i Japan, men 1967 när deras manager Joe Meek plötsligt dog, så var det också slutet för The Honeycombs
De som såg på spåret ikväll, hade stor nytta av mina Bloggar om Ann – Louise Hansson och Beach Boys i den här och förra veckan, då dessa förekom som svar i samma musikfråga. Så det är ingalunda bortkastad tid att lära sig mer om populärmusikens viktigaste period, sextiotalet och slutet av femtiotalet. På återseende hoppas jag!
Hi there Oliver Tooley. So you are the manager for the Honeycombs today, I suppose. First I will only tell you that this is a Blogg, where we are critical to the mass immigration mostly from the MENA-countries and Afghanistan and Somalia. We blame mostly our own government and our journalists, which don’t write the truth about the problems with integration of especially the Muslims. That is what we mostly are occupied in doing. As we, like most people like music, I started to write about the music in the last half of the 1950: is and the whole of the 1960: is, as it was somewhere there the modern popular music started, and where it was possible to find music videos to play, mostly on YouTube. We have now finished the periods from 1955 – 1979, and are looking for someone who has good knowledge about the 1980: is. So right now we are having a break in our presentation of older popular music. Well that was a little about our background. I hope that I can get your story since the middle of the 1960: is, as I think that there is a very long time since the Honeycomb disappeared from the music business. Hope that you can tell us more about your band today. Martin Murray will be 70 this year, if he is not already there. I have written that he was born 1941, which the Swedish version of Wikipedia says, but I have now found that in the English version of Wikipedia he was born already 1939. As he is Brittish I am sure that 1939 is right, and then he will be 72 years old in October.
